Ditto Steve's comment - birthday's are out of our control but hard work, the 10,000 hour rule, we can influence. Along the way of logging those hours the moderately intelligent/talented person will be able to see around the corners.

Greg - great summary. I think the biggest takeaway from me was that even though there are plenty of things that are outside of our control in terms of "mega success", there are still plenty of things that are within our control. Hard work and seeing around corners are still the best way to stay ahead of the curve, even if it won't land you on the cover of Fortune magazine.
